Marrbury Smokehouse is regularly featured in the local and national media.
In August 2009,
Channel 4 featured Marrbury in a six-week series, Dolce Vito Dream Restaurant.
Vito Cataffo and his team came to
us some time ago, having scoured the UK far and wide to find the very best smoked salmon. Having visited so many smokehouses,
they had just about given up when they landed here on our doorstep.
Vito did indeed find not only the UK's
finest smoked salmon, but, in his words, "the best salmon in the world!"
The series followed Vito as
he set out on an epic quest, staking his personal fortune and his hard-won reputation on a deep-set personal belief: that
British food is the best in the world.
The series followed Vito as he found a failing Italian restaurant, rescued
and renovated it by transforming it into a shrine to British food.
Says Ruby Marr who runs Marrbury Smokehouse
with husband, Vincent: "We are immensely honoured that it was here, in the hills of Galloway, that Vito found his perfect
smoked salmon.
"We had a fantastic time here in our tiny corner of the globe, working with Vito and his film
crew. We don't think our smokehouse, some 20 miles from Carlsuith at Bargrennan, has ever been so alive with activity!"
Vito not only worked with Ruby and Vincent in their smokehouse, he dared to join the couple in the mucky quicksands
of their "Net and Coble" salmon fishings on the River Cree.
If only Channel 4 would show the footage
of the various camera crew and producers stuck in the quicksands, that would make for interesting TV viewing!
